The Backyard Ultra mode is very simple.
Every hour the runners start a 6.706 km (=4.167 miles) long course. You have exactly one hour to do this. If you don't finish the round on time and don't start again, you're out!
No late start! Very easy! ;-)
The event runs until there is only 1 runner left on the course. => open end
The race takes place according to the official Backyard Ultra regulations of the American original.
What can you expect in Korneuburg:
Not far from the Austrian capital, hidden in the natural areas along the Danube, the latest ultra event takes place in a shipyard near Vienna.
At this unique running event in Korneuburg, participants cross the picturesque Hofau and put their physical and mental endurance to the test. The start and finish point, the historic Korneuburg shipyard, provides a fascinating backdrop for this challenging race.
For spectators, friends and family, the shipyard grounds with the Werftsplash summer pool offer a welcome opportunity to cool off, while the on-site gastronomy provides culinary delights. The proximity to the town center promises a perfect weekend in Korneuburg.
All in all, the Austria Backyard Ultra in Korneuburg promises not only a sporting challenge, but also an eventful weekend for all those who want to be inspired by the unique atmosphere and the wide range of activities on site.

Saturday, 08/03/2024:
07:00 a.m. to 08:30 a.m.: bib pick-up
09:00 a.m.: START Austria Backyard Ultra Korneuburg
award ceremony does not take place for the Backard Ultra. Prizes and the DNF medal will be handed over immediately after the runner's DNF.
DNF the runner: If you are more drawn to the gastro instead of to the starting line, you have to deregister yourself with the organizers, hand in your timekeeping chip and receive your very own DNF medal in return.

getting there
Korneuburg station can be reached directly by S3, S4, REX from Vienna Floridsdorf station in approx. 10-15 minutes.
The walk from the station to the shipyard is about 10 minutes.
From St. Pölten, the public journey to Korneuburg station takes approx. 70 minutes.
Parking spaces are also available in the shipyard area.
It is possible to travel by bike via Eurovelo 6 and the shipyard area is directly connected to the cycle path.
Those interested can also arrive by boat (from the Greifenstein power station 6km downstream - then keep left and don't miss the shipyard entrance)
Route
The latest Austria Backyard Ultra starts at the Korneuburger Werft just outside Vienna, in the middle of the Danube floodplains.
The route leads through the idyllic Hofau, a nature reserve with extraordinary flora and fauna. The combination of natural beauty and the unique format of the Backyard Ultra makes this event an unmissable experience for amateur runners and ultra runners alike. Here they can find a new challenge and test the limits of their endurance.
The course is completely flat and has only 5 meters of elevation gain per lap.
An ideal route to run to your personal record in the Backyard Ultra while saving as much energy as possible.
The surface is 90% hard gravel and 10% asphalt.
Immerse yourself in the experience and enjoy the impressive surroundings of the historic shipyard, which boasts an industrial past and cultural significance.

The route is sufficiently marked and secured. After 10 laps at the latest, you will know the way blind anyway.

The route is mostly on Hofau paths, mostly gravel and asphalt.

At the start/finish area, participants will be given space in the event area for chairs, cool box, sleeping bag,... First come - first serve! Electricity available.

To avoid unnecessary plastic waste in the refreshment area, each participant should bring their own drinking cup / flask / bottle as usual!

Sanitary facilities are available in the start-finish area.

The refreshment station is in the start-finish area. There is no aid station on the course.

At the parking lot next to the event area - directly next to the start-finish area - there is enough space for campers - also first come, first serve, please register by email or phone if you need a parking space.

The Hofau is a nature reserve and not a garbage dump! We move around in nature and treat the animals with respect. Inappropriate behavior in nature (especially the throwing away of garbage) will be punished with immediate disqualification.

The run takes place at your own risk and on your own responsibility on a route that is not cordoned off or monitored. On roads, the StVO must be followed and traffic must be observed.

Headlamps and high-visibility vests are compulsory in the evening!
The participant is responsible for accidents or injuries of any kind and must take out adequate insurance himself. The landowner and the organizer are not liable for this.

Refreshments during the run (water, iso, cola, coffee, soup, tomatoes, cake, fruit, salt, peanuts, salt sticks/pretzels, spreads, chips, and much more). Subject to change. There is no guarantee that the complete offer will be offered throughout the event. Breakfast for the 24-hour/100-mile runners is an egg dish.
