Every hour the runners start a 6.706 km (=4.167 miles) long course. You have exactly one hour to do this. If you don't finish the round on time and don't start again, you're out! No late start! Very easy! ;-)
The event runs until there is only 1 runner left on the course. => open end
The race takes place according to the official Backyard Ultra regulations of the American original.

Route
In the heart of the Mostviertel region—where forests, meadows, and trails come together perfectly—the Austria Backyard Ultra Amstetten – Forstheide will take place for the first time in 2026.
The start and finish area is located in Ulmerfeld-Hausmening, right at the entrance to the Forstheide, one of the most beautiful running areas in Lower Austria.
The route covers 6.706 km of varied terrain:
firm forest soil, gravel forest paths, and short asphalt sections through the idyllic Forstheide.
The route is largely flat and even, with around 30 meters of elevation gain per lap – ideal for running at a steady pace for many hours and conserving energy.
The combination of shade, forest air, and spring temperatures makes the forest heath the perfect setting for your season opener. 😊

-
The route is clearly marked. After 10 laps at the latest, you'll know the route like the back of your hand anyway. 😉
-
There is a lawn for runners in the start/finish area. You must bring your own pavilions/sleeping tents or chairs. First come, first served! Runners who drop out early must vacate their space in the start/finish area. This allows runners who are still in the race to move closer to the starting line.
-
Restrooms are available near the start/finish area.
-
There is a refreshment station in the start/finish area. There are no refreshment stations along the route.
-
To avoid unnecessary plastic waste at the refreshment station, each participant should bring their own drinking cup/flask/bottle as usual!
