The first Austria Backyard Ultra in Thüringen/Vorarlberg

New Austria Backyard Ultra in Vorarlberg on a flat course with beautiful views of the surrounding mountain panorama.

The Backyard Ultra mode is very simple.

Every hour the runners start a 6.706 km (=4.167 miles) long course. You have exactly one hour to do this. If you don't finish the round on time and don't start again, you're out! No late start! Very easy! ;-)

The event runs until there is only 1 runner left on the course. => open end

The race takes place according to the official Backyard Ultra regulations of the American original.

Route

The Backyard Ultra route starts south of the center of the municipality of Thüringen. The first 500 m are flat and run through a quiet residential area.

After that, the route descends steadily but almost imperceptibly by about 40 meters. From the halfway point, it climbs steadily back up towards the start/finish area.

The surface is paved throughout. About one-third of the route runs through shady forest, with the rest through open fields with views of the surrounding mountain panorama.

organizational

  • The route is clearly marked. After 10 laps at the latest, you'll know the route like the back of your hand anyway. 😉

  • The route is paved throughout.

  • In the start/finish area, the middle school hall is available to all participants for chairs, coolers, sleeping bags, etc. First come, first served!

  • There is also a field for runners 50 m from the start/finish area: you must bring your own pavilions/tents or chairs.  First come, first served! Runners who drop out early must vacate their space in the start/finish area. This allows runners who are still in the race to move closer to the start line.

  • Participants may only be supported by assistants in the start/finish area. There is no limit to the number of assistants. In the interests of fairness, assistants must not obstruct or restrict other participants. We recommend one assistant per participant. We ask for particular caution during the first few hours, when almost all participants are still in the race.

  • Restrooms are available near the start/finish area.

  • There is a refreshment station in the start/finish area. There are no refreshment stations along the route.

  • To avoid unnecessary plastic waste at the refreshment station, each participant should bring their own drinking cup/flask/bottle as usual!

  • Inappropriate behavior in nature (especially littering) will result in immediate disqualification.

  • The run takes place at your own risk and responsibility on an unclosed and unsupervised route. On roads and bike paths, traffic regulations must be observed and traffic must be taken into account! Vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians may be present on the running route.

  • As usual, headlamps and high-visibility vests are mandatory during nighttime hours!

The participant is responsible for accidents or injuries of any kind and must take out adequate insurance himself. The landowner and the organizer are not liable for this.
